The Pastoral Care Ministry at the Church of the Immaculate Conception exists to give spiritual care to those parishioners who have special needs. We visit the sick, those who are homebound, those in adult homes, hospitals, and nursing homes. We visit people after they have been hospitalized upon returning home, and we follow up with Hospice patients. We keep in touch with these special people by phone and/or mail. We also work collaboratively with the Funeral Ministry.
The Pastoral Care Ministry consists of the Parish Priest, the Pastoral Care Coordinator and parish volunteers.
On Monday, May 17, we held a Special Healing Mass here at IC.
This healing sacrament was for all those experiencing illness or any health problem, especially our homebound parishioners. We had over 100 persons receive this beautiful sacrament.
I would like to extend my thanks to all the volunteers who transported parishioners to and from church, the volunteers who greeted, handled name tags and escorted people to their seats, the lectors, and the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. A special thank you is extended to Bernadette Petersen for providing the beautiful music for the Mass. A huge thank-you goes out to Fr. Jerry for celebrating the Mass and to Fr. Connery for concelebrating. And to Fran Szpylczyn and Kathy Friscic for all of their behind-the-scenes support.
Following the Mass, there was a luncheon in the parish hall provided by our Parish Nurse/Health Ministry. Many thanks go out to Betty Parks and all of the parish nurses for their delicious food and all of their help in making this day so enjoyable. A special thank-you to Michele, Patty and Christine for scooping the ice cream and to Sophia for distributing the prayer cards to our guests.
We hold these Healing Masses twice a year, in May and October. This event has really blossomed into a wonderful opportunity for those parishioners, many of whom are no longer able to attend Mass on a regular basis, to come home. A home where they have friends and people who love them. What a beautiful statement that says about us here at Immaculate Conception; that we are home to so many people.
